O escudo é uma arma de defesa, ele traz proteção ao soldado, impedindo que seja alvejado ou ferido e o mantenha no combate. Um soldado ferido se torna alguém vulnerável e fica incapacitado de continuar na batalha. O texto bíblico usa o escudo como símbolo da fé, que impede de ser atingido pelo inimigo.

Como a fé pode desempenhar esse papel? Você lembra quando falamos sobre a verdade? A principal arma do nosso inimigo são as mentiras. Seus dardos inflamados são suas tentativas de afastá-lo da verdade. A fé mantém você na verdade.

O escudo da fé é sem dúvida uma arma poderosa contra o nosso adversário, pois a nossa luta não é contra a carne e o sangue, mas contra as potestades malignas do inferno.

O maligno não tem poder sobre você, mas vai tentar fazer você acreditar que ele pode atingi-lo e colocá-lo em dificuldade, derrotá-lo. Nesse caso, você pode acreditar nas mentiras dele ou ficar firme com o escudo da fé, que o protege e não permite que seja ferido.
